Welcome to Kula Yoga Project!
Whether you are new to Kula completely, or simply new to our virtual space, KULA ESSENTIALS has something for everyone. These 4 modules (sold individually for $60/module or included as part of an unlimited membership) are essential for beginning students and Kula old-timers alike.
These 4 modules are intended to keep you up to speed on the assumptions most of our teachers make about the students in the room (or on the other side of the digital device screen), especially if you’re taking Kula Flow 2/3 classes. Familiarity with the basics of standing postures, back and forward extensions, inversions, and restorative options; a working knowledge of anatomical landmarks and cues; and a practice of breath and bandha work will enhance your experience as a student in our intermediate to advanced level classes.
Our Yoga + Social Justice module, facilitated by Naimah Efia, is work we hope you will also see as fundamental, essential, and non-negotiable. Social justice work, like the practice of yoga, is experiential. As we know from time spent on the mat, this work demands deep listening, a commitment to humility over competence, and a willingness to be with what comes up in the practice and process of that listening. In a year dominated by pivots unexpected, long overdue, and not entirely without redemption, we’d like to re-commit to fostering community centered around anti-oppression, even if it means having conversations that are ongoing and necessarily uncomfortable. Those of you who resolve to walk this path of unseeing and unlearning with us remind us of the power of this work and our Kula —which, entirely non-coincidentally, means “intentional community” in Sanskrit.
