It’s summer camp for adults!
This June our mash up will feature our staple Kula Flow classes, Banded Kula Flow, Ground Control, The Rub and plenty of breathwork. We also promise a restorative feature in there somewhere! Expect to work hard (and intelligently!) but to also find the time and the space to restore and recover.
At Kula our practice is a vigorous, highly creative vinyasa form that seamlessly blends attention to alignment with the steady metronome of the breath. The result: an intelligent, ecstatic moving meditation. We will offer one Kula Flow class daily. Groundcontrol is a Lindsay Ashmun creation that is scored from a Pilates mat format. This breath-based, core focused class is extremely relevant for yoga practitioners and movers alike. Exercises have been specifically designed with yogis and athletes in mind to train the body for deep and balanced strength, optimal range of motion, injury prevention and recovery. Threes Physiyoga Banded Kula Flow is Giulia Pline’s take on a movement practice with resistance bands. The format allows you to identify your edges, meet them, and use them to strengthen and stabilize yourself. The result? Immediate information on how to use and move your body differently and more efficiently. Think of it as cross training your body and your mind in an attempt to keep you equally mobile and stable for a lifetime of practice. The Rub is where we hit the floor and tune in to the body via SMR (self myofascial release). Nikki V. will dish out a massage tool or two and lead you through delicious release and recovery practices.
A week away at Camp Kula gifts you the luxury of time: enough for two daily asana class AND two workshops where we slow down and deconstruct things. In our free time we will feast at the famous Kripalu dining hall, hike along wooded Massachusetts trails, and take long soaks in the hot tub or hold court in the sauna. Expect to laugh, expect to learn. We love bringing this intensive to Kripalu to help dedicated practitioners and teachers go deep, on both a physical AND a metaphysical level. After Camp Kula you will return home with body, mind, and soul soaring.
This workshop is open to students who have been practicing regularly for at least 2 years and teachers of all forms of yoga.
About the instructors:
Nikki Vilella: is a long time teacher and the co-director of Kula Yoga. Whether on retreat or in the halls of Kula, she strives to include a rich alchemy of precise physical instruction, intelligence, intention, and space into her classes. Her passion for sequencing and hands on adjustments are hallmarks of her teaching.
Lindsay Ashmun: is a former professional dancer, mother, business owner and a master Yoga and Pilates teacher since 1999. She trains clients at her studio in NYC and in Los Angeles and travels world wide facilitating classes, workshops and retreats. Lindsay is the creator of GROUNDCONTROL ™, a breath based movement method focused on building deep core strength, movement education, breathing mechanics, spacial awareness and nervous system regulation.
Giulia Pline: I began studying and practicing yoga to supplement my dance training during my time as a B.F.A Dance major at The Boston Conservatory. Yoga became a natural extension of dance for me, providing a different path to discover more about myself. Fast forward a few years and injuries later, I expanded how I view and teach yoga through my pursuit of extensive studies in movement & kinesiology, anatomy, physiology and biomechanics. I left the dance and performing world behind, but infuse its knowledge, detail, somatic awareness, and passion into my work.
